Joey Votto carried the Reds into ‘buyer’ status at the trade deadline. Is it enough?

The Cincinnati Reds just took 3 of 4 from the Chicago Cubs in their final series before the Major League Baseball trade deadline. They took them because Joey Votto went on a historic dinger binge that didn’t even truly turn back the clock, it reset the clock entirely.

BK joined me on the latest episode of Bleav in Reds to talk about it pod-style, as well as where the Cincinnati Reds stand after their recent moves. Yes, they struck a deal with the New York Yankees to land relievers Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson. Yes, they landed Mychal Givens from the Colorado Rockies. Yes, all three have looked good in their Reds uniforms in the lone appearances each have made since being acquired, and they all certainly bolster the unit that needed the most bolstering on the Reds roster.

Still, is it going to be enough? Can the Reds, who are already on the outside looking in, mount a charge with that group until their laundry list of key injured players get healthy? And with the news that the Los Angeles Dodgers have swung a blockbuster to land Max Scherzer and Trea Turner (with former Reds prospect Josiah Gray being a centerpiece) resonating, can they catch the clubs ahead of them if those clubs keep making bigger deals that the Reds this week?
